Spring has sprung and it is all about new beginnings. Time to clean out your closets, and make room for the latest trends. We are seeing a mash up of trends this year, but it’s all about girly fun. We gathered up our top 5 trends we are seeing for Spring of 2016. Which one will you try out?
The Textured Bang- Love this hot trend that has a fun mash up between shag 70s and 90s grunge. As a hairdresser I like to create this look by using my razor on damp hair and placing the jagged length by the eyelashes and tapering/layering hair downward by the high check bone area downward to the lip. This look is not for everyone, but with the right density and face shape this can change your look from plain to fun + flirty!
Lips are Talking- Its time to bring on a pop of color and turn up the sex appeal because lipstick is bold this season. Red lips can be a tricky one to wear, but the blue lip trend is even tricker; however if you select the right color for your skin tone it will be a big hit. Red lipstick can look cool or it can look warm. Do you look best in silver jewelry, burn easily, and/or look great in bright green? You are cool tone, so choose a lipstick that is a pinky red shade or just go for a pink. If you look best in gold, yellow, and tan easily, than you are warm toned and wear a red that has more orange to it. An ombre lip is a hot trend as well. This is where you line and color in the outer portion of your lip and choose a lighter shade in the center. I like it best when its in the same color pallet; a brownish red with a champagne pop in the middle.
HOT TIP: To create a modern lip keep your color finish matte. Use a sharp lip liner to achieve a crisp edged perfect pout. Avoid products that are too glossy because they do not last as long.
Braids- 2016 braids have more structure to them, but organically placed. This is so different then the braids from last year; which was thick, rough, and totally BOHO. The braid style of 2016 works best on mid length to longer hair and should be worn sparingly if you are late 30’s and up.
Hot tip: Create a small, 3 strand braid in your bang area. If your hair is really long try wearing a pony tail just below the crown, then braid it for a clean and sporty look!
Bob- each year Bob brings something new to the table. Last year the bob was blunt to the collarbone. This year it is soft edges and above the shoulders with extra length around the face. The style of the bob is a loose texture, like “I woke up this way” type of texture. My favorite products right now to recreate this look is my ¾” HOT TOOLS single barrel iron + Aquage Beyond Shine. Wave hair in large, random sections, and work wave into opposite directions (still working hair in front away from face and ear area towards face though, so you are not Farrah Fawcett).
HOT TIP: After you wave a strand, pull it straight with your hand while it is hot to stretch out curl. This creates curl confusion and finished wave is looser. Finish with spraying Moroccanoil texture spray and shaking out wave with hand.
Nail it in 2016- Every women needs to wear a great manicure. On the runway we are seeing lots of unique nail art; from metallic nails, to matte nudes, to French manicures with a tip of color. Nails are a great way of expressing your personality. Are you classic, sporty, or have a wild edge? Show it off on your nails for a fun way to add more passé to your image. Wear your nails in a lengthy, point shape for a wild edge or a perfect natural nail no chip for a classic look. We love the latest CND Vinylux Flirty Collection.
